Job Title: Maintenance Supervisor

Reports to: Manufacturing Manager

Department: Maintenance

Position Type: Non-exempt

Main Objective:

This position is a multi-functional maintenance position with the inclusion of supervisory responsibilities. Specialization in both mechanical and electrical is required. The supervisor performs operations on equipment, the facility and other areas as necessary.

Essential Functions:

  • Scheduling and prioritizing of maintenance department tasks
  • Performing routine and preventive machine maintenance
  • Fabrication and equipment wiring
  • Facility maintenance
  • Cross functional communication and analysis of equipment downtime
  • Coordinate with outside maintenance service providers
  • Supervise maintenance team and maintenance department

    Knowledge/, Skills and Abilities:

    Knowledge
    • Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
    • Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and statistics.
    • Electrical - Understanding of basic electrical principles and wiring of equipment.
    • Engineering and Technology - Knowledge of engineering science and technology.
    • PLC - PLC Programming

      Skills
      • Critical Thinking - Use logic to identify approaches to problems, solutions and drawing conclusions.
      • Time Management - Managing your own time.
      • Instructing - Must be able to teach others how to perform tasks.
      • Repairing - Repairing machines as well as the facility.
      • Equipment Maintenance - Performing routine maintenance and determining when and what is needed.
      • Troubleshooting - Determining causes of errors and deciding a plan of action to correct the error.
      • Welding - Must be able to proficiently use oxy-acetylene welder and MIG welder.
      • MS Office - Experienced user of MS Office Suite

        Abilities
        • Written Comprehension - The ability to read and understand information and ideas in written form.
        • Oral Expression - The ability to communicate their thoughts and information so that others will understand.
        • Visualization - The ability to imagine how something will look after it is moved, rearranged or modified.
        • Technical Drawing - Ability to understand technical drawings as well as creating basic drawings in AutoCAD.
        • Fabrication - Ability to design and fabrication basic equipment and components.
        • Documentation - Experience in completing technical documentation for engineering and manufacturing.

          Education and Experience:
          • 3+ years of prior experience in a manufacturing environment
          • 2+ years in a maintenance position
          • Associates Degree in a technical field preferred. Additional experience may be substituted for Associates Degree

            Physical Functions:
            • Ability to frequently lift up to 35 lbs and occasionally lift up to 55 lbs.
            • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
            • Frequent use of hands, manual dexterity, coordination and ability to work with hands above head as necessary.
            • Ability to see details at a close range

              Work Environment:

              Work is primarily indoors in a climate-controlled office and manufacturing area; noise level is moderate. Employees frequently work on or around moving and heated equipment. Work hours are 8:30am - 5:30pm; however, the supervisor is on call 24 hours 5 days a week and must be willing to work weekends if necessary.

              Equipment Used:

              Employees frequently use powered tools, hand tools, lathes and saws. Employees occasionally use oxy-acetylene welders/torches, MIG welders, grinding wheels and electrical testing equipment.

                The use of lean manufacturing and six sigma principles will be used to improve effectiveness. The supervisor must be willing to learn these tools and apply them in improving the company's overall maintenance program.
