Healthcare Network of Southwest Florida (HCN) is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team. HCN is a Federally Qualified Health Center located in Collier County on the beautiful Gulf Coast of Florida. HCN has been providing primary care to underserved patients for over 40 years.

We provide comprehensive, integrated primary care to more than 50,000 patients at 21 clinic sites throughout the county with more than 75 practitioners. Services include pediatrics, family and internal medicine, an HIV/AIDS treatment program, geriatrics, women's care, dental, and integrated behavioral health. Job Summary

The PRN Medical Assistant assists in routine patient care in the office setting. Works closely with the physician/mid-level practitioner. This individual fosters a smooth and efficient patient flow in offices throughout Collier County. Duties are performed under the supervision of a Lead RN or Lead LPN.

Responsibilities and Standards

o Assist providers and nurses with patient care activities.

  • Obtains accurate vital signs from the patient and reports abnormal findings verbally to nurse or provider.
  • Accurately enters documentation into E.H.R. (Chief Complaint and Vital Signs)
  • Accurately obtains health history and rectifies medication.
  • Serves as translator between the patient and healthcare provider when needed.
  • Accurately processes electronic lab and diagnostic orders.
  • Fills in logbooks and special forms (pertinent to department)
  • Administers medications by oral, Intramuscular, subcutaneous, intradermal routes.
  • Performs phlebotomy.
  • Performs department specific procedures.
  • Calls in prescriptions.

o Performs waived testing as ordered by the provider.

  • Follows policies and procedures.
  • Logs results per policies and procedures.

o Keeps exam rooms and treatment areas clean per infection control policies and procedures, and well stocked.

o Accurately utilizes medical equipment as trained.

o Reprocesses medical equipment according to establish policies and procedures.

o Assists with monthly reports, i.e., hand hygiene, infection control, equipment checklist.

o Maintains use of universal precautions at all times.

o Performs other related duties as indicated or when requested by supervisor.

o Assists in referral process within integrated care model and outside specialty providers.

o Assists patients in pharmaceutical assistance programs as needed.

o Orders and maintains inventory of medications.

  • Maintains the sample log and pharmaceutical log
  • Checks for expiration dates and disposes of expired medications correctly and in a timely manner.

o Preloads patient's medical information into the Electronic Health Records


Job Specifications

  • Efforts are generally responsive to work flow, must be able to work independently and prioritize work on a daily or weekly basis, subject to occasional reprioritization by others
  • Impact of work performance could result in a noticeable impact in the organization and may involve management attention.
  • May be required to perform the duties of other employees, including supervisors/managers, in their absence.
  • May be required to perform duties and responsibilities not listed in this description, on a temporary or long-term basis.
  • Travels to all office sites as needed.

Experience

Education/Training Level:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Certification or Registration as Medical Assistant

Communication Skills:

  • Bilingual skills preferred.
  • Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills.

Technology Skills:

  • Effectively uses Electronic Health Records
  • Proficient on computers
