Arthrex, Inc. is a global medical device company and a leader in new product development and medical education in orthopedics. Arthrex is actively searching for an AI Principal Scientist - Digital Enabling Technologies

Main Objective:

The Principal AI scientist will be responsible for building and leading a team of AI scientists and drive the technical efforts for Arthrex's growth in digital surgery, comprised of an ecosystem of advanced preoperative planning solutions, augmented/mixed reality for intraoperative navigation, smart products (sensors, wearables) and AI/ML solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Building and motivating a team of AI scientists for the Enabling Digital Technologies team - spanning sub-verticals such as surgical navigation, augmented/mixed reality, smart products (sensors, wearables) and machine learning/AI solutions.
• Develop a strategic roadmap of Arthrex's AI initiatives and implement the AI portfolio through development of advanced AI, cloud computing and database components.
• Collaborate with Arthrex teams to deploy and improve AI portfolio in various regulatory, legal and reimbursement regimes across the globe.
• Analyze and communicate model performance, tradeoffs, and risks, while championing product quality and safety.
• Stay up to date on the latest research in machine learning, driving internal R&D efforts as needed
• Up to 25% travel. Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or related technical field required; MS or PhD preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience with machine learning algorithms and tools (e.g., TensorFlow), artificial intelligence, deep learning and computer vision technologies required
  • Proven leadership experience to build and lead teams required.
  • Experience in medical device / healthcare field is preferred. Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:
    • Deep experience in AI, machine learning, cloud computing and GPU based computations.
    • Experience with embedded Linux systems, Experience developing and supporting data processing pipelines for machine learning.
    • Software development experience, preferably with Python and/or C++
    • Solid understanding of professional software development best practices, including coding standards, source control management, CI/CD, and testing.
    • Ability to promote collaboration by unifying teams, setting common goals and incentivizing collaborative behavior.
    • Strong ability to build credibility, organize effectively, solve problems quickly, communicate clearly, and harmonize diverse and competing interests.
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:
      
      Experience with medical device development and testing. Understanding of design controls and accepted design standards. Knowledge of orthopedic medical devices and instrumentation, surgical planning, mechanical testing equipment, PC, and 3D modeling software is a plus.
