Your Specific Responsibilities:
The Senior Registered Nurse is a public health nursing position
with the Florida Department of Health in Glades County and is
headquartered in Moore Haven. This 12-month position provides
functions for school health services in Moore Haven Middle-High
School, working under the direct supervision of the Senior
Registered Nurse Supervisor. The incumbent is expected to provide
high quality customer service and clinical excellence and be able
to independently perform assigned duties in multiple public health
program areas while ensuring thorough and accurate documentation of
charts and medical records. TB testing and certain immunizations
may be required.
Responsible for the oversight of the Basic School Health program
which provides school health services as required by s. 381.0056,
Florida Statutes (F.S.) and Rules 64F-6.007, Florida Administrative
Code (F.A.C.). Participates in planning, organizing, and
coordinating the School Health Services Plan for basic services
with the school district to appraise, protect and promote the
health of students. Development and implementation of plan.
Provides direct and consultative school health services.
Provides professional oversight for school district Licensed
Practical Nurses and Unlicensed Assistive Personnel. Provides
quality improvement for school-based health room services in areas
such as: documentation; emergency procedures; chronic disease
management; health education in the health room and classroom;
illness and injury; immunization and health certificate record
reviews; mandated screening; communicable disease; child
protection; and case management.
Responsible for the gathering of health screening data in Moore
Haven and coding by timeframe set in the school health scope of
practice. Responsible for completing annual school health report
for Glades County and assists with Glades County school health
plan. Assists in the development and revision of school health
policies and procedures.
Participates in quality improvement and assurance (QI/QA)
activities in Moore Heaven. Responsible for the oversight of
Full-Service School services with the school district serving a
population that has a high risk of needing medical and social
services. Coordination / provision of prevention, treatment and
support services to students and families. Coordination with
interagency providers to plan, organize, and coordinate goals to
serve high risk students. Coordination / provision of specialized
services in schools that integrate education, medical, social
and/or human services to meet the needs of the high-risk student
population and their families.
Participates in the School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC)
quarterly. Attends all required and/or assigned staff meetings,
in-services, and training programs.
Prepares biweekly leave and attendance records and daily employee
activity records (EARS)
Works in general clinic, as needed. Performs other duties as
assigned. Performs related work as required, including preparedness
activities.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of professional nursing practices and
public health principles, practices, and techniques. Skill in
critical thinking. Ability to prioritize and multi-task. Ability to
effectively educate and counsel clients on health-related matters.
Ability to work effectively with other DOH staff. Knowledge of
quality improvement tools and techniques to effectively monitor and
improve programmatic outcomes. Ability to work flexible hours if
needed. Ability to collaborate effectively with community partners.
Skill is the use of computers including Microsoft Office
applications (word, excel, e-mail, etc.) and in the use of
automated client databases such as Health Management System (HMS)
or a comparable client database. Ability to accurately document and
maintain client medical charts (manually or electronically).
Ability to understand, interpret & apply applicable rules,
regulations, policies & procedures. Ability to plan, organize and
coordinate work assignments. Ability to work independently or with
minimal supervision.

Qualifications:
Minimum:
* Licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with Florida
Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with
Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27
* Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond
normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency
duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or
Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including,
but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster
or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
