JOB SUMMARY
The RN Navigator Research is the primary facilitator of clinical
research communications and educational activities at NHI physician
offices. This position provides the connectivity for NHI physicians
and their staff with the NCH Research Institute (NCHRI) staff to
identify, enroll, and follow patients who qualify for clinical
trials efficiently and accurately. Works directly with the
physicians and collaboratively with NCHRI, screening patients using
defined inclusion and exclusion criteria, ordering study related
testing, and assessing patients' overall suitability for clinical
trial participation. Assumes teaching and project guidance as it
relates to NCHRI trials for NHI staff and patients along with NCHRI
staff. Participates in shared decision-making, referrals, and
research related activities as needed. Serves as a resource to
referring physicians regarding clinical trials; refers patients
interested in research trial participation to NCHR.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Other duties may be
assigned.
Coordinates the identification, assessment, and recruitment process
of potential NHI clinical trial participants.
* Knowledgeable of NCHRI Clinical Trials, providing information to
physicians, office staff, and patients.
* Receives information on potential research participants from
physicians and hospitals and communicates quickly with NCHRI Staff
ensuring timely screening is initiated.
* Triages potential participants per study eligibility criteria and
preferred treatment plan of referring physician.
* Communicates back to referring contacts, recognizing their need
for follow-up, and providing them with an NCHRI representative for
future updates and questions.
* Works with NCHRI staff and project coordinators to educate and
update the patient and family throughout the protocol screening and
process.
* Serves as an informational resource for the clinical practice
staff regarding NCHRI studies and how they may impact their office
tasks.
* Promotes research participation; advocates for clinical research
at NHI
* Demonstrates leadership in building a strong network of
collaboration and support with NCHRI Staff
* Practices ethically in an environmentally safe and healthy
manner.
Works in collaboration with the NCH/NHI providers and NCHRI staff
to assure patients experience clinical excellence in the delivery
of cutting-edge treatments, only available through clinical trial
participation.
* Communicates any physician directives or treatment plans that
involve clinical trial participation to NCHRI staff
* Participates in the acquisition of medical information that
supports and documents patient eligibility
* Assists NCHRI in creating a smooth screening path, involving
pre-testing and other protocol required tasks and assessments.
* Assists with organizing and scheduling research required testing
that completes the assessment process
* Performs as a liaison between Research, NHI, and clinical office
staff to enhance the patient experience through complete and timely
information transfer and accurate timely communication
* Promotes a cohesive delivery of patient care, that meets the
goals of physicians, patients, and families
* Responsible for overseeing office staff education and
competencies required by research protocols and working with NCHRI
to document training as required.
Builds and maintains a comprehensive database of the skills,
certifications, achievements, experiences, presentations, and
publications of NCHRI in cooperation with Leadership, documenting a
strong foundation and high-quality reputation of success.
* Works with the NCHRI Manager to create and maintain a curriculum
vitae of the Research Institute and an inventory of all
publications, abstracts, books, and presentations associated with
the Researchers of NCH Healthcare
* Creates and manages a quarterly research newsletter with NCHRI
Manager and Investigators to be distributed throughout the NCH
physician, employee, and community networks
* Develops and assists with the implementation of educational tools
for potential and active patients and their families.
* Maintains a cumulative database of clinical protocols for
reference and review on a recurring basis on a monthly basis
identifying such as protocol names, principal investigators,
Contracted Research Organizations (CRO), IRB, enrollment
goal/achieved, start-up time, enrollment duration, and follow-up
completion.
* Maintains a list of "FIRSTs", special achievements for use in
performance reports and public education.
Performs other related duties that enhance and grow the clinical
research opportunities at NCH.
* Respond to the ongoing needs of the NHI research program as it
grows in scope and complexity.
* Maintains a commitment to professional growth and competency
including pursuit of related certifications.
* Keeps up to date on all current literature and studies and serves
as the primary resource to share this information with others.
* Responds to other related tasks and duties than enhance the
success of the NCHRI program
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
* Minimum of 2 years of strong clinical nursing experience in
cardiac care required.
* Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Florida.
* Basic Life Support (BLS Provider) certification required from
American Heart Association.
* Communication and Problem-Solving skills and ability to maintain
flexibility.
* Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel,
Outlook, and Windows
* Strong organizational skills
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to adjust to and willingness to support change
* Ability to work with and educate a variety of staff positions
* Excellent representative of Institution
* High level of professionalism at all times
* Excellent clinical experience in cardiovascular medicine
* Participates and promotes ongoing learning
